I Did it!! My Jillian Michaels 90 (well 97) Day Body Revolution Review

on August 24, 2012

I finished all 90 (well 97 for me because I redid a week) days of Jillian Michaels 90 Day Body Revolution!!  If you are new to my blog the reason I did 97 days was because I re-did a week after I had my wisdom teeth out.  Wanted to give it my all for that week.  So 97 days later here I am and I am very proud of myself.

Now I admit I didn’t pick this program to lose a ton of weight. Actually the most important reason I  chose these workouts was as a compliment to my running.  You see after a 5 half marathons I finally figured out it was probably a good idea to add in cross training.  In fact it was a really, really good idea.  I needed a stronger core and a stronger boody ;).  Now that I have them I have seen a significant drop in how sore I am after long runs.  I used to get up the morning after a long run feeling like I was about 90.  Extremely sore  hips and bad PF in my right foot.  I would seriously wake up and think… “man getting out of bed is soooo not going to be pleasant”, and it wasn’t.  It’s MUCH better now, so that right there was worth all the sweat of the last 97 days.

***As a side note I also practice Chirunning and do Yoga at least once a week and all have contributed to less aches and pains. ***

Here is a basic breakdown of MY 97 days:

-There are 2 types of DVD’s in the program.  Workouts (cross training) and Cardio.  You have 4 days of workouts (cross-training) per week (M, T, Thur, F) and 2 days of a cardio DVD (Wed, Sat).  I did do the cardio a few times but only if it fell on days I didn’t run.  I have been running on average 4 days/week along with the workout dvds throughout the 97 days.  (I am training for a Half Marathon.)  So I was doing cardio 4-5 days a week.

-The workout DVDs change every two weeks.  Example: you do workouts #1 and #2 for the first two weeks and then switch to #3 and #4 for the next two weeks, etc.  There are #12 workout dvds in all.  This was probably my favorite part of the program because you never really get bored.

-Every two weeks the workouts become more challenging.  It’s Jillian Michaels so that is no joke, nuff said.

-Jillian also works your core without a ton of sit-up type moves.  AWESOME because I really dislike sit-ups.

-These were my first experiences with JM workouts.  I have to admit I never watched Biggest Loser (no I don’t live under a rock) but YES I did know who she was, lol.

Questions:

Did I change my diet?  A little I use the basics of the Flat Belly Diet, which relies a lot on MUFA’s being included in every meal.  I also try to eat pretty healthy overall.

Did I “cheat”?  Umm yeah…a few cupcakes! 🙂  I love Jillian’s 80/20 rule…eat right 80% of the time.  Plus dark chocolate is a MUFA, and you just can’t beat that.

Have I lost both weight and inches?  Yes and no.  I lost about 9 lbs but more importantly I have definitely traded weight for muscle. So some inches actually increased like in my arms.  I actually like the new arms a lot. (I have skinny arms and legs thus the nickname skeletor.  Not the worst reason for a nickname I know.)  I also now need to wear a belt with most of my shorts and pants.  🙂  Goodbye muffin top, or in my case cupcake top, and hello abs.

So my opinion is …..LOVED IT!!  I really liked Jillian’s style and I feel much stronger and more fit.

The 97 days actually ended at a perfect time.  This upcoming week is a taper week before my Half Marathon.  I hope all this hard work will pay off there too.

My only problem now?  Where do I go from here?  I am thinking JM 30 day shred…my hubby says Insanity.  I think he’s insane 😉  Do you have any workout programs you have enjoyed?  I would love to hear some suggestions.

WAY TO GO completing that program! I bet you see major improvement!!

YES YES YES! Insanity is next – LOL. It is really hard to fit in with running though. We started Insanity and 1 week into it I got Bronchitis 🙁 BUT that week was amazing – I could feel my cardio improving SO much and I was already getting better with the moves! Insanity is 6 days a week and alot of cardio (jumping, burpees, squat jacks etc). I can’t wait to start it again. (My goal was to do my long run on the 1 day off – but you could use the one day break- legs are exhausted)…. Not sure how I will manage that yet! And then I would also have to do Insanity and a 30 min run on the same day/2x week. hmmmmmm…..

I want to do JM 90 Body Revolution too!! So let me see if I understand the program – there is 4 days/week of cross training and 2 days/week of cardio – but you only did the cardio if it wasn’t one of your 4 running days?? That could work for me!

My hubby insists Insanity helped him run faster…he is pretty fast. So I am thinking of at least trying it. As for JM yes its 4 days of CT and 2 days of cardio DVDs, but like I said I ran and did the cross training or just ran most days so I did more cardio. Somedays that was hard especially if I did any longish runs. Let me know if you do it and like it! Best of Luck!

Hi I wonder how or what you did to do both running and revolution? Did you alter either plans or did you just do both at the same time

great job sticking to the program!! it sounds like you really did an awesome job with it, and the results speak for themself!! yay!! :o) SPA LOVE

  3. Way to Go! As a runner I also recently came to the same realization! Cross training makes you a better runner! I got so much faster once I started cross training. I finishing up week 7 of Insanity and I highly recommend it!! It is hard and insane but awesome! I am also a big fan of Jillians DVD’s! congrats on your accomplishment!!!

Congrats on finishing! I’m starting P90X next week. I’m changing up my diet a bit and adding in Shakeology for breakfast and still plan on running 3-4 days a week. I figure if my sister can survive P90X I can too – or at least give it an honest go. If I survive that I plan on doing Insanity next.

I did P90X last winter, I love Tony! The only thing I liked better about JM is that it fit into our summer schedule easier because her dvds are 30min. Best of Luck!

  5. Great job girl!!!!! I need to look into this workout! My hubby wants me to do P90X with him but I am sooo scared lol!

  6. That is awesome! Almost 2 years ago I finally added cross training to my running and it has made a big difference. About 6 months ago I added yoga. Love it!

My all time favorite is P90X followed closely by P90X2. They’re fun, challenging and you see results. I’m on week 9 of the Les Mills Pump challenge now and loving it too.

GREAT Job!! I have her 30 day shred Dvd, I may pull it out and do it!! Good luck with your upcoming half!

Thanks for sharing your input on JM Body Revolution. I have been doing Jillian’s videos for about a year and a half now. It has completely changed my body. The best part is most of her workouts are about thirty minutes. I started with 30 day shred, then moved on to Ripped in 30. Have recently started Extreme Shed and Shred. Keep coming back to Level four of Ripped though. Can’t beat it. If you’re sticking with Jillian, think you should try Ripped or Extreme Shed and Shred next. I don’t think you can beat her results. Especially when you compare the time commitment involved in P90X and some of the other videos out there. Congrats and think I may try Body Revution next!!!!!

    Hi There,
I am so encourage to continue on with JM. I am 67 years young and this is phase 2 of week 5 & 6 and I am hanging in there with the grace of God and I am going to give it all I got not only for me but for other seniors that think life is over and pills are the answer. I do not take any pill, nor any pain except what Jillian is putting on me. I am expecting to transform my body to a strong muscle body to give my savior more praise without getting tired and a witness to others. This is God’s temple and I am presenting it back to him as a living sacrifice. I am up 4:30 in the morning to get my execise in because my evenings are full and yes I am still working full time.

I have a question about the Body Revolution workouts. The space that I use for workouts is limited. I am wondering how much moving around and/or room would be needed to complete the workouts. I don’t want to invest in the dvd’s only to realize that I can’t use them due to lack of space. Thanks!

    • Actually not a lot. I did it in my dinning room (don’t ask) There is one dvd that has some suicide runs so that requires a little more space. But it worked out find for me 🙂 I hope that helps. Oh and I saw they carry it at Target now.

I did Insanity last winter. I loved how strong I got…I too am a runner 2 Marathon’s and 3 half’s. When I did Insanity I got faster, and not as sore after my runs. The down side to insanity is I didn’t lose very much weight I lost 5 lbs. and not much around my belly…which is my problem area. After reading your blog, I’m definitely going to try Total Body Revolution. Thanks

What is the proper schedule for this workout?

  15. Angie says:

I was searching how to combine half training with JMBR and found your blog! I’m in phase 2 of BR, and about 4 weeks into half training. So for your weekday runs did you do them before or after your Jillian workouts? After doing her strength I wonder if I’d have anything left to run??!! Curious to see how you fit it in! Thanks!

    • When my kids were in school I did my JM in the morning and my runs in the late morning. Over the summer I did my runs first thing then my JM after or later in the day depending how I felt. I only did running on cardio days, I didn’t use the cardio dvds. Hope that helps

  16. Celesta says:

Do you have a sample of your workout rotation? I have the program and I love to run. I’m looking for a way to incorporate the program and running.

  17. I LOVE TurboFire and LesMillsCombat! I am currently restarting Combat and find that when it is over I am sad/can’t believe that time went by that fast. My first 30 days I lost 5 inches overall, and had an inch gain in my arms! I feel you there! I tried JM 30day Shred a couple of times but was never able to get through it. I need the music and these two programs did it for me, I never got bored which is a bonus. Congrats for finishing and I loved the review/updates.

That’s awesome! I do Jillian Michael’s Yoga Meltdown dvd about once a week and love it! I’ve been wanting to her whole program a while, so it’s glad to hear it’s good . I recently finished Insanity and loved it!!! I would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a new program. I wrote a review on my blog a few weeks ago if you want to check it out :). http://fitfulfocus.com/2013/03/14/i-did-it-insanity/ – we can swap tips!

Way to go, I made it through 11 of the 12 weeks before I go hit with the flu. After that it just didn’t feel right going back to do week 12 so I jumped into Insanity. I absolutely loved TBR and plan on using over and over again to maintain my current status… Insanity is just too crazy to try to keep up, TBR is just right!

  20. Akinos189 says:

    Hi all 🙂

Great to hear all these different experiences and how we are connected through these great workouts and love for exercise!

My story is that I have always been around a size 10-12…more 12 but after I had a car accident in October last year I was bed bound for some time and put on weight and was pretty much a size 14…I have always been into fitness and was really into running. However, I started having trouble with my knees and back after the accident so had to stop…

I was working full time and doing a Masters on top of it so I was super busy and hardly had any time to myself…then one day in February this year…I took a look at myself and decided that enough was enough and that I had to do something..so I decided to start JILLIAN MICHAELS 30 Day Shred…and not only did I complete it but I did it for 31 days straight! I know you shouldn’t do that as your body needs rest but I was fine doing it and well my results after that month – my jaw dropped when I saw my before and after pictures. Couldn’t believe it – the pictures show you something that is not visible to the human eye!! I had lost inches off my body!

I then decided to do JM’s RIPPED IN 30 and this time I did it properly with rest days in between so I did it for 5-6 days a week. Again, the end result? More inches off my body and I was starting to tone up everywhere!

I then went onto do JM’s 6 Week 6 Pack and that is one of my favourites I have to say – especially Level 1 – you can really feel the work on the abs! After I completed JM’s 6W6P I started BODY REVOLUTION and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!!
I also did it for more than 90 days purely because I had run out of ideas for what DVD to do next so I did it for an extra 2 weeks. I then switched to 6week 6 Pack again for a month and now I have started INSANITY. Let’s see how that goes.

I have to say though that I am a HUGE fan of JILLIAN MICHAELS – her workout dbds have literally changed my body and my life (I also didn’t follow any food plans) – in total after the workouts I mentioned above I must have lost a total of 13inches off my hips, waist, thighs and arms. I wasn’t too bothered about weight but since people always ask I estimate around 6kg.
I am now a very comfortable size 10 and feel so light in my body and toned. My core strength is amazing.

I am excited to see how Insanity will work for me.

It just shows though – if you really want to do something – you can if you put your mind to it. That’s what I tell everyone now as my friends and family are amazed at my transformation over the last 6-7 months.

Would love to hear from you!
