Run Find Your Happy Pace

finding my happy pace in running and life

Sunday’s “Inspiration for your Perspiration” September 30, 2012

on September 30, 2012

OK so it’s only Thursday and I am already sitting down to write Sunday’s post.  Why?  Well I just had to share this book with you.  So far it may be the best, most inspirational book I have ever read, ever. (other than the Bible of course).  And I just started it on Wed.  I found it at a local second-hand book shop.  I had gone in looking for some health/running books and it just kind of popped out at me.  Accident, I think not.  The book is:

Rick Warren  “The Purpose Driven Life, What on Earth am I Here For?”

Have you read it?  If you have I would love to know what you thought of it and how it changed you.

The book is a 40 day spiritual  journey. It’s one of those books you just don’t want to put down.  However in the introduction Rick Warren specifically urges that  you read only 1 (one) chapter per day.

Each day he asks that you

  1. Ponder a point
  2. Memorize a verse
  3. Gives you a question to consider each day.

It’s a book you shouldn’t just rush through, although I have had to hold myself back.  I was hooked just by the introduction alone.  He writes about how 40 days is so significant in the bible.  Have you noticed that too.  Noah’s 40 days of rain, Moses 40 days on Mount Sinai, Jesus’ 40 days in the desert.  I also know my unique journey with God took a drastic change for the better when I turned “40”.  I was brought up in the church but never really “felt” it until that age.  Now I would never go back.

Here is just a sample from chapter one:  “The purpose of your life is far greater than your own personal fulfillment, your peace of mind, or even your happiness.  It’s far greater than your family, your career, or even your wildest dreams and ambitions.  if you want to know why you were placed on this planet, you must begin with God.  You were born by his purpose for his purpose.”

Wow.  And it gets even better in chapter 2 talking about your birth and how it is no accident when, where or under what circumstances you were born.

If anyone would like to get the book and go on this journey with me I would love to have you.  I would be willing to set up a special Facebook page just so we can post to each other about it.  Please let me know if you are interested by leaving a comment or emailing me @

UPDATE:  OK, its Saturday nite and I am loving this book more everyday!

**As a side note I went to Married Life Live at my church tonight (Saturday) and met a bunch of other military wives with deployed spouses.  Our church was so generous by “tweaking” the program for those of us without our partners.  Dana, the co-ordinator for MLL sought us out as military spouses to make sure we didn’t miss this event.  They also discounted the price, had childcare and CUPCAKES!!  Cause you know I love my cupcakes :).  You just can’t beat that.  I urge you to find a church that you love and that supports you!  What a wonderful difference it makes.

So my question for you guys is:

  • What is your favorite inspiration book (other than the bible)?

I enjoyed “Who Moved My Cheese” by Spencer Johnson. The book describes change in one’s work and life, and four typical reactions to said change by two mice and two “littlepeople”, during their hunt for cheese. The book is very entertaining and a very quick read, but also informational and thought-provoking.

I recently read Devoted: The Story of a Father’s love for his son. It’s the biography of Dick Hoyt. Though this has to do with running I have told several of my friends (runners and nonrunners) to read this book if you need a little inspiration. I was so inspired by what this man has done for his son, insuring that he gets the same opportunites as everyone else despite his disability. I was so inspired that I joined Team Hoyt VB here and has helped other children have the opportunity to experience the thrill of the race. I love pushing in the races and I’ve met alot of really amazing people. These kids and their parents continue to inspire me. They are all really amazing!
