Inspiration for your Perspiration 2/17/2013 – Faith

Faith.  Do I truly have it?  Do I live it?  Do you?

In my environment (US, middle class) it’s “easy” to assume you I do. And by that I mean, too easy to assume that what I am doing is what it should be.  I show up but am I fully participating?   I go to church but do I take the word with me when I leave?

When I take a true and honest look, I really think I could be doing a WAY better job.

I involve myself in life and just let my “faithfulness” or lack of it just happen.  Is this you too?  I will use myself as an example.  I took a look at myself and this is what I see.  I make everyday tasks take precedence over my time with God and for God.

  1. Family
  2. job/blog
  3.  hobby
  4. God / faith

God is number 4?  Really?  That’s not only sad its very eye-opening. Does this list look familiar to you?  If so then boy do we both have some serious work to do!  I’ve had what most would say and easy life so far.  Good health, a great family growing up, a loving faithful husband, great kids.  Yet still I have my priorities screwed up.  Clearly God should be #1 on my list.  As my pastor stated this week “It’s not a spiritual advantage to prosper”   Clearly that seems to be happening in my case.  So what can I do to fix it.  Well I need to do more than just show up!  I need to get into the word every day, I need to make it to my bible study class,  I need to practice what I preach.  One of my biggest fears is that I am acting like this…

1 Corinthians 13:1

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
Now don’t get me wrong, I clearly don’t think I speak in the tongues of angels, but I hope to connect with someone thru this blog.  Even if I just remind someone to pray, or be a better friend or work on their relationship with God.  And I know I can only accomplish this through and for God, not for me!  We were not all meant to preach to the masses but as believers it is our duty to share the good news.
In my everyday life, and in this weekly blog, I do not want to be an empty lifeless gong that makes noise and says all the right things I should say, but not live it.  I also know for me this is not easy.  I am very easily swayed to earthly things.  But when the day comes I stand before God nothing would make me happier that to hear Him say….good job, or job well done.  I want to be what He intended me to be and that doesn’t just happen. So today I am asking you to pray for me (leave a comment and I will do the same for you) that I don’t take God for granted, that my faithfulness is true and bears much fruit, that I can share with others more than just words but true faithfulness through my actions.  Today I thank him for his continued grace, something that he gives freely, because it is not earned.  I’m going to work on making God #1 in my life.

Thanks for listening this week, and remember if there is something I can pray about for you please let me know.
Have a wonderful week 🙂

Virginia Is for Lovers (and runners) 14K Recap

This past Saturday (Feb 9, 2013) I participated in my 2nd Virginia is for Lovers 14k.  I was excited to do this race for a few reasons.

  1. The biggest reason was that last year at this time I was suffering from a pretty bad case of Plantar Fasciitis in my right foot.  (you can read last years re-cap if you click here)  I had developed PF at the very end of 2011, at the time however I had already signed up not only VIFL but also Disney Princess Half (also in Feb) and the Shamrock Half Marathon (March) for 2012.  So I was knee-deep in training and I wasn’t about to throw $$ out the window!
  2. And I got to run it with my hubby and two of our best friends (also military) Which with our hubby’s deployments we don’t always get to do.

So this year I was VERY glad to be running VIFL pain-free with my sweetheart :).  The only pain Saturday was the biting wind and cold.  Per the weather man the 9 am race (oh thank goodness it wasn’t earlier) was 33 degrees with a “feels like” temp of 22…oh and breezy  and down here by the shore apparently breezy is 25+ mph winds.  For me this was by far the coldest race I have ever run.  On the upside the day before (Friday) we had the same conditions PLUS rain.  Whew glad we dodged that bullet!

The great thing about VIFL is that it is a nice change of scenery for a Virginia Beach race, it is not held down at the Oceanfront as many are.  Change is good.  We started out at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex and raced a mixed terrain of road, trail, gravel parking lot and even a small “hill” (the outdoor amphitheater’s walkway).   I am also proud that I can now run, not walk most “hills”.

All in all it was a great run.  Lots of fun Valentine themed costumes, Dj’s on the course and happy runners.  Oh and lots of fun signs like “Cheesy Pick Up Lines” and I even saw a Run Happy and a Happy Pace sign :).  I got a quick pre-race picture with the local girls from MRTT.  (Moms Run This Town)

My plan was to run this race at my Half Marathon training pace for the Disney Princess Half which is just 2 short weeks away.  My pace was not super fast but I was comfortable for the entire run and finished with a PR of over 6 minutes from last year.  Suck that PF 😉.  The last half mile I turned it up a bit since I had a lot more energy left than I had given myself credit for.  I wish I had sped it up a little sooner, but I am still satisfied with my overall time.

This was a local J&A Racing run event and as always the after party did not disappoint.  A plus for VIFL is that the after party is inside the Sportsplex.  The medal was its usual awesome….

and the food was just perfect for a cold run. Tomato Bisque Soup served in a Bread Bowl via Bakers Crust with Yuengling beer and live music too.

So what’s up next?  The plan for this week is to get one more long run of 10+ in before Princess!  So excited to have some run and fun with the girls at Disney!

Sunday’s “Inspiration for your Perspiration” – Love

Hope you all had a wonderful week.

Since Valentine’s day is coming up this week I thought we could talk a little about Love.  Specifically how much God loves us.

God showed us the ultimate form of love.  Giving his only son to die for us so that we may have our sins forgiven and live in his love and grace forever.  No one, and I mean no one loves you more that He does.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son

that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

So as we celebrate Valentines Day with the ones we love, our parents, spouses, children, friends lets take a minute to remember the great gift that love is.

1 Corinthians 13:13

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Let’s also remember how important it is to love the Lord above all things.
Luke 10:27

“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

Have a wonderful and blessed Valentines Day with your loved ones.

Sunday’s “Inspiration for your Perspiration” 2/3/2013

A friend of mine from High School had posted this on Facebook.  His daughter brought it home on a flyer from school.  There is a child I’ll call her “Allie” who is battling cancer for the third time in her short 12 year-old life.  Please keep “Allie” and all those suffering in your prayers.

I am re posting it because:

  1. No kid should have to go through cancer
  2. It puts my problems / issues into perspective – they are very, very, trivial
  3. God blesses those who suffer because through them we all get closer to God
  4. We need to take time to put God first every day whether your going thru a good or bad “season of life”

I tried to find out more about the author, but could not.  I take no credit for writing this in any way.  I just wanted to share.  Thank you Mr. John Alessi for these beautiful words.

Read.  Pray.  Love 🙂

The Brave Little Soul
By: John Alessi

Not too long ago in Heaven there was a little soul who took wonder in observing the world. He especially enjoyed the love he saw there and often expressed this joy with God. One day however the little soul was sad, for on this day he saw suffering in the world. He approached God and sadly asked, “Why do bad things happen; why is there suffering in the world?” God paused for a moment and replied, “Little soul, do not be sad, for the suffering you see, unlocks the love in people’s hearts.” The little soul was confused. “What do you mean,” he asked. God replied, “Have you not noticed the goodness and love that is the offspring of that suffering? Look at how people come together, drop their differences and show their love and compassion for those who suffer. All their other motivations disappear and they become motivated by love alone.” The little soul began to understand and listened attentively as God continued, “The suffering soul unlocks the love in people’s hearts much like the sun and the rain unlock the flower within the seed. I created everyone with endless love in their heart, but unfortunately most people keep it locked up and hardly share it with anyone. They are afraid to let their love shine freely, because they are afraid of being hurt. But a suffering soul unlocks that love. I tell you this – it is the greatest miracle of all. Many souls have bravely chosen to go into the world and suffer – to unlock this love – to create this miracle for the good of all humanity.”

Just then the little soul got a wonderful idea and could hardly contain himself. With his wings fluttering, bouncing up and down, the little soul excitedly replied. “I am brave; let me go! I would like to go into the world and suffer so that I can unlock the goodness and love in people’s hearts! I want to create that miracle!” God smiled and said, “You are a brave soul I know, and thus I will grant your request. But even though you are very brave you will not be able to do this alone. I have known since the beginning of time that you would ask for this and so I have carefully selected many souls to care for you on your journey. Those souls will help you create your miracle; however they will also share in your suffering. Two of these souls are most special and will care for you, help you and suffer along with you, far beyond the others. They have already chosen a name for you”. God and the brave soul shared a smile, and then embraced.

In parting, God said, “Do not forget little soul that I will be with you always. Although you have agreed to bear the pain, you will do so through my strength. And if the time should come when you feel that you have suffered enough, just say the word, think the thought, and you will be healed.” Thus at that moment the brave little soul was born into the world, and through his suffering and God’s strength, he unlocked the goodness and love in people’s hearts. For so many people dropped their differences and came together to show their love. Priorities became properly aligned. People gave from their hearts. Those that were always too busy found time. Many began new spiritual journeys, some regained lost faith – many came back to God. Parents hugged their children tighter. Friends and family grew closer. Old friends got together and new friendships were made. Distant family reunited, and every family spent more time together. Everyone prayed. Peace and love reigned. Lives changed forever. It was good. The world was a better place. The miracle had happened. God was pleased.
