Motivational Monday – Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Screen Shot 2015-07-26 at 7.28.33 PM

For the second year in a row I am all signed up and ready to Walk to End Alzheimer’s.  This year I will be participating in the Monterey, CA walk on September 26, 2015.

As many of you may know my mother was diagnosed with early onset a few years back.  To read more about our journey click here.  Alzheimer’s changed my parents and my family’s world.  As devastating and heartbreaking as this disease is we were lucky to find a wonderful Alzheimer’s specialized nursing home unit close to my parents home when we were no longer able to care for her at home.  But what would be even better?  A Cure!

Did you know?

With a donation, you can help the Alzheimer’s Association® continue to provide care and support to the more than five million Americans with Alzheimer’s and their over 15 million caregivers. Your generosity would also help to advance the research that will one day lead us to methods of prevention, treatment and, ultimately, a cure for the disease. Every dollar counts in this fight.

Alzheimer’s disease is the 6th leading cause of death, and affects millions of people daily.

The Alzheimer’s Association® is committed to accelerating the global effort to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease and is the largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer’s research.

So where is the motivation in the motivational monday you might ask?

Well the motivation needs to come from both you and I.  Would you consider donating or even walking in your local Walk to End Alzheimer’s.  I walk for my mom, my family and all those affected by this disease.  Together we can help provide the funds needed to make a difference today and look forward to a cure tomorrow!

Alzheimer’s Sucks – I’m doing my part. Walk, Run and Kick Butt

Alzheimer’s SUCKS!  Let’s do something to help!

My challenge:

I have made the commitment to participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in my town.  (click to find one in your town) However I decided that wasn’t a big enough challenge for myself.  I wanted to do more!

Therefore I have officially committed to the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on October 12 in

run a Half Marathon on October 5th in hopes to inspire others to step up by supporting me.

Why am I participating?

It’s personal.  My mother was diagnosed with early onset dementia a little more than 4 years ago.  In her mid sixties.  This past year her decline has been drastic, devastating and heartbreaking for us all.  This disease has taken so much of my beautiful Mother.  But one thing it can never take away is the love we all have for her and the inspiration she has always been to me.  Every small glimpse of recognition, every smile, every hug and kiss is a blessing to our entire family.  Do I understand why this is happening?  No, but I am a firm believer in God’s Plan for all of us.  Someday he will explain even the meaning of this trial and disease to us all.

Proverbs 3:5-6 [Full Chapter]

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Until then:

Would you consider supporting me in any way (big or small)?

I would be more than honored to run for your loved one(s) too just let me know!

Here is the link to my official fundraising page

through the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

Not able to commit financially?  Please consider praying for all those effected by Alzheimer’s including families and caregivers.  God Bless!

Pink for a Cause. Lets help fund Breast Cancer Research Together.

Hello Everyone I am excited to bring you my latest adventure…..

I am raising money for Breast Cancer Research in honor of several family members and friends.  Recently Breast Cancer has hit my family, once again, particularly close to home.  I decided that instead of sitting on the sideline (because what good does that do?)  I would  commit to raise money so that maybe someday Breast Cancer will no longer be such a scary thing.  I would love for all our daughters and future generations to not have to worry about things like this.

Therefore I am so honored and overwhelmed by the wonderful support I have received from my friends in the  running community in regards to my fundraising efforts.  I also want to remind all the women out there to do their monthly exam, it takes a few minutes but it could just save your life.  Recently I posted on my Facebook page about going to get my mammogram.  In case you missed it here it is 🙂  Get ready for a little TMI:

What I had didn’t  post a few days later was I was called back for another visit.  Scary since my family has very recently been touched by Breast Cancer once again.

Visit number 2...lucky for me everything was A OK!

Visit number 2…lucky for me everything was A OK!

I am happy to say everything was fine, but I will be much more diligent about self exams in the future.  For ladies my age I urge you to go get your mammogram if you haven’t already this year.

And for those younger ladies here, please make sure to do your monthly self-exam!   Guys remind your wives, girlfriends, sisters etc to get theirs too!

OK that would be my PSA for the day 😉

So on with the fundraising!!!  There are sooooo  many cool prizes to be won!  I will be offering chances thru Papal in order to raise money.  I am proud to announce the following sponsors for this event.

One chance –  $3

Three (3) Chances for $5

Five (5)  Chances for $10

Please click on the appropriate Picture Button below which will bring you to Paypal.

Thanks so much for your support!
