Motivational Monday – March 30, 2015 – Worrying

I stumbled across this quote quite accidentally.  Have you ever heard for Corrie ten Boom and her family?  I had not either but I am very excited to learn more about this amazing Christian woman (and her family) who helped many Jews escape persecution by the Nazis only to end in the death of her own family members.  Find out more on this Amazon link.

Motivational Monday March 23, 2015 – Starting Point

One of my favorite books ever is “The Purpose Driven Life” (what on earth am I here for) by Rick Warren.  If you have never read it I highly suggest it.  It’s a really good read weather you are a new Christian or a lifelong believer. Or if you are on the fence about God and the meaning for your life.  I really don’t think it would disappoint.

Thought for the week….

Lent Faith and Fitness Challenge

I have to admit the basis of this idea was not entirely mine.  A group I belong to on Facebook was discussing how we would be celebrating the season of Lent.  The idea of a passage a day was passed around and I told her I thought it was a wonderful idea and then “ran” with it 😉  Thus was born the idea of:

10615536_919130284787804_128781943906232061_n

I picked Psalms and Proverbs (but if your more comfortable reading another part of the bible PLEASE do! Our goal is to get into His Word.)  I just felt like for those who might be pressed for time but want to participate, Psalms and Proverbs are both insightful, thought-provoking and a great resource to ponder over during your workout.

Read one verse per day, common I know you can 🙂 , and throughout your workout reflect upon what you have read.  I am sure your mind with wander to other things during your workout but try to refocus and bring your heart back to what you have read.  Believe me I know mine mind wanders all the time….oh look a kitten!

Screen Shot 2015-02-17 at 5.02.20 PMDo your best.  Even if that means focusing on the words at the beginning and end of your workout.  Miss a day….no worries, we are not here to judge only to support.  Our time with Him brings Him great happiness.  To His Glory!

Motivational Monday – February 16, 2015 – Make Someone Happy

This week I am challenging myself and you to make someone else happy this week.  Maybe you have been feeling a little down and out lately?  But do you also have someone in your life who could use a little cheering up?

I think Mark Twain might be on to something here…

Motivational Monday – Time and Patience

Good things come to those who wait and all great achievements really do require time and effort.  In our modern high-tech world we are always in a mad dash for the here and now.  We stumble over each other, and sometimes even ourselves, trying to get or to achieve what we want, when we want it. (which is usually right now!) We want to be the best, the fastest, the one who gets there first.

Although the modern world has brought us so many magnificent things that help make life easier (and faster) we many times lose sight of the fact that great things, truly great things, are worth our time, effort and patience.

Ecclesiastes 7:8 The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride.

Year of the Peeps – Do you believe in New Years Resolutions?

This year I am trying something a little different on the Facebook page and Blog.  Each month I will post a “Question of the Month” for all you “peeps”.  You know “PEEPS”, you guys, amigos, buddies, etc.  Throughout the month I will throw out some reminders on the FB page.

I will do my best to blog responses in a timely manner.  My plan is the first week of the following month but hey I have commitment issues 😉  (actually no I have life, family and crazy schedule issues, hehe)

Any who……..I have dubbed this year:

Year of the Peeps

YOTP

January 2015’s question was “Do you believe in New Years resolutions?  Why or why not?”  I got a lot of mixed answers to this question.  Some peeps use them as motivation to learn something new, some don’t believe in them at all.  Here’s what you guys had to say:

Helen M:  ” I believe in them and have kept many of them. Learn to swim, stop smoking, start running are just a few from the past. This year it is run a marathon. Signed up for First one in May.”     (wahoo Go Helen!!!)

Kristi K:  “I believe we shouldn’t wait for New years to better ourselves. But for some people they need the mental support of other starting their journeys at the same time. I have never kept a resolution, maybe that’s why I think they don’t work!”  (I also believe if you have support of others that definitely helps!)

Tiffany B: Yes and I know, it’s good to set goals and stick to them. Yet you shouldn’t wait do to it once a year. Be your best all year-long!!!”  ( I also agree Tiffany!  Have different goals throughout the year is an awesome idea!)

Aimee P:  “I do! I think they are a fun way to motivate many aspects of your life!”  (motivation is the key to improvement!)

Kristy R: “I don’t do resolutions BC I feel like they are setting up for failure, I choose to do one word that I focus on in all areas of my life throughout the year. One year was healing, one was consistency, I’m still working on this years.”(This year I have chosen to go the same route as Kristy.  My word for 2015 is “Balance”)

So what do you think of New Year’s Resolutions?

Thanks everyone!  Keep an eye out of the February 2015 question.

Motivational Monday – January 26, 2015 Admitting Mistakes

This quote from the wonderful Billy Graham couldn’t have come on a better day for me, what a great reminder.

IMG_6638

I have definitely made some (ok many) parenting mistakes I wish I could take back.  I have learned that stress is one of my biggest factors for “losing it”.  I have also learned it’s not only ok but actually a great example to my children to admit when I have been wrong.  When I have acted or spoken out of anger or when I have not handled a situation so well.

In turn we should also ask God for forgiveness.  For he is a God of love, mercy and grace.

James 5:16  New International Version
“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”

Motivational Monday – January 12, 2015 Renewed Each Day

I found another great quote for not only a Monday morning but every morning.  I was unable to locate the author of the original words but it doesn’t make them any less wonderful.  God doesn’t just hold onto the broken pieces He fixes them.

Blessing for a wonderful day, week, month and year!

Starting your Time with God Challenge? Let’s talk Daily Devotionals

Not sure where to begin your time with God journey? Let’s talk about one of the easiest ways to spend time with God. Daily Devotionals.

DD

This was a new concept to me a few years back.  So let’s assume maybe you’re at the same point I was then and maybe your not so sure where to start.

So what exactly is a daily devotional?  A daily devotional is traditionally in the format of a book, with one reading passage for each day.  A preset guide if you will for your journey.  My favorite and a simple (yet powerful, don’t let the word simple fool you) daily devotional is “Jesus Calling, Finding Peace in His Presence by Sarah Young.”  Its format is written in a beautiful conversational style.  It’s as if Jesus is sitting with and speaking directly to you.  Here is an example:

October 6:  “Be willing to follow wherever I lead.  Follow Me wholeheartedly, with glad anticipation quickening your pace.  Though you don’t know what lies ahead, I know; and that is enough!….”

The “conversation” is followed by two or more bible passages.  See simple yet powerful and beautiful.

In our new electronic age there are also online tools you can use to receive daily devotionals right to your inbox.  Here are a few website examples:

Christianity.com

Our Daily Bread

The Upper Room

Of course there are many other books and on-line resources.  My suggestion is that you find the one that is right for you.  I have had a books that just didn’t speak to me, or where a bit too advanced for my current walk with God and that’s ok.  The important thing is that you find the one that does speak to you.  It may take some trial and error but it will be so worth!

Blessings.
